what's happening at this stage
The Art of Acting
Here, we honor emotions often deemed unacceptable.
We explore the wholeness of being human.
This class is rooted in the radical honesty of the moment. The work is rigorous and experiential, asking actors to set aside self-consciousness, identity, and social etiquette to respond truthfully, without pretense - without fear.
Rather than focusing solely on technique as an end goal, this class cultivates awareness and responsiveness, encouraging students to engage more deeply with what is happening in each moment.
Drawing from a wide range of acting traditions, including The Method, Meisner, Adler, Spolin, Viewpoints, Butoh, Classical Acting, and Theatre of the Absurd - the work is not necessarily style-driven, nor is it therapy; it's the art of presence. It is a disciplined practice that carries beyond the stage into film and into everyday life.
This class serves as a foundation for further study, where our shared language is later applied to monologue and scene work.

The Human Stage
About
"We at The Human Stage invite the fullness of the human experience, without prejudice or pretense - where theater is a living experiment with the power to transform ourselves and the world. Theater, at its origin, is ceremonial and an opportunity for cultures to awaken and recognize their shared humanity. At this stage, myths are reimagined, as we create new mythologies for a new humanity."
Ness Hopkins, Founding Artistic Director

@The A
The A is a focused and intimate "creator-space" in Ashland, Oregon, located in the revitalized Historic Railroad District. Over the past two years, it has hosted a curated series of contemporary art exhibitions, performances, and interdisciplinary events, serving as a gathering place for emerging and established artists as well as leading healing arts practitioners, all rooted in exploration and lived experience.
The space functions as a micro, foundational space for the further development of The Human Stage, a recent 501C3 status Performing Arts Organization.
We support experimental work, new and classic voices, and evolving forms, while cultivating community and creative rigor.
